How Word headings become EPUB chapters
Word's built-in Heading 1 style becomes an EPUB chapter boundary. Heading 2 and lower levels remain section headings inside the chapter.
If a document has no Heading 1 paragraphs, E-BOOKA creates one chapter named from the DOCX filename. Visual formatting alone—such as large bold text—does not guarantee chapter detection.
Apply semantic heading styles in Word before conversion for the most predictable chapter list. Inspect the chapter list before export.
Content commonly preserved from DOCX
E-BOOKA converts DOCX content through HTML, preserving common headings, paragraphs, emphasis, lists, tables, hyperlinks, and inline images where the source structure is supported.
Print-specific layout does not transfer directly to reflowable EPUB. Page margins, running headers and footers, text boxes, floating objects, tracked changes, and custom fonts may be removed or represented differently.
Inspect tables, images, footnotes, special characters, and links after conversion.
A safer DOCX-to-EPUB review workflow
Start with a clean Word file and accept or reject tracked changes before importing. Use Heading 1 for chapters and ordinary paragraph styles for body text.
After conversion, compare the draft with the source, correct chapter order and metadata, add or replace the cover, and check the exported EPUB in your target readers.
E-BOOKA exports EPUB 3. Reader and store requirements can differ. Use the EPUB checker to review your exported draft before publishing. Old .doc files must first be saved as .docx in Word or another compatible editor.
