Marked as the cover the way EPUB readers and Kindle expect, so your library shows the new thumbnail.
Crop to fill and keep the top, center, or bottom, or show the whole image with margins that match its edges.
Shows the original size and warns before a small image is enlarged.
The book opens in the EPUB editor, so you can also fix the title, author, or chapters before exporting.

Drop the EPUB on this page. It opens in the editor on the Cover tab, showing the current cover. Nothing is uploaded.
Choose Replace and pick a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image, or drop the image onto the cover. Then choose an output size: a Kindle, Kobo, PocketBook, or Xteink screen, Amazon KDP or Apple Books, your own width and height, or Original size to keep the image as it is.
Choose Export EPUB to download the book with its new cover. The same steps add a cover to a book that has none.
Books protected by DRM, which includes many store purchases, cannot be opened. Your own books, public domain titles, and fan fiction downloads are usually DRM-free.
For your own e-reader, pick its screen size. A cover the same shape as the screen fills it without bars or cropping.
For a store, follow its guidance. Amazon KDP recommends 1,600 × 2,560 px. Apple Books asks for at least 1,400 px on the shorter side. Kobo suggests a width three-quarters of the height, the shape of its screens.
Start from the largest image you have. Enlarging a small image adds no detail and can make it look soft, and stores reject blurry covers. The editor tells you before it enlarges an image.
Reading apps find the cover through a marker in the book's package file, not by looking at the first page. E-BOOKA marks the new image both ways readers look for it: the EPUB 3 cover image property and the older cover entry that Kindle also reads.
If the old cover still shows, the device is usually keeping a saved thumbnail. Delete the old copy from the device, then copy or send the new file again. For Kindle, send the EPUB with Send to Kindle; Amazon converts it on the way.
Fan fiction downloaded as EPUB, from AO3 for example, usually has no cover image, so Kindle and other readers show a plain placeholder in the library.
Drop the EPUB here, add an image on the Cover tab, and pick your Kindle's size. Export the book, then send it with Send to Kindle or copy it to your reader. While the book is open, you can also correct its title and author on the Metadata tab.
Crop to fill covers the whole size and cuts off what falls outside it. When the image is a different shape, choose which part stays: the top, center, or bottom, or the left, center, or right.
Show whole image keeps every part of the picture and adds margins where the shapes differ. The margins take the color of the image's edges, so they read as part of the cover. Neither option stretches the image.
